SCRIPTURE - Ge 9:6, Psa 127:3                                                                                             APRIL, 2004

Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

SUBJECT - THE CHRISTIAN, ABORTION AND CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

This month's subject, concerns the decades of controversy concerning what position the Christian should take, when it comes to abortion and capital punishment.

It is believed that Christians should be consistent when it comes to human life. Their position on these two major issues, in our community, should be, according to their own beliefs, the total support of life. Therefore, when it comes to these issues, they are pro-life (against abortion, and against capital punishment). That is the ideal position to take, if you are pro life, in their sight. However, that position, though consistent, is wrong, in the eyes of God.

The position that the Christian should take, is to be against abortion, and for capital punishment. Though this seems like a contradiction, this is the true stance of being pro life.

To better explain myself, I ask you to look at both scriptures, listed above.

The first one, is a statement by God, which is the first known direction by Him, that any person that murders another, should be put to death, by man. Thus, we can say, capital punishment, was instituted by God.

There are many today, including, a lot of preachers, that say, capital punishment, is immoral. Many times, some Christians, knowing that a prisoner, in some prisons, is getting ready to be executed, will stand outside the prison, in protest, holding signs, quoting the bible verse, [Exo 20:13, Deut. 5:17 Thou shalt not kill.] Now, while this may seem to be a legitimate thing to do, they are actually in error.

First, the scripture says 'thou shalt not kill', true. But, the actual rendering of it, is, 'thou shalt not commit murder.' Why do I say this?? Because in the books of the law, Numbers, God defines, what type of killing of another individual, is worthy of being put to death.

Num 35:16 And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
Num 35:17 And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
Num 35:18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
Num 35:19 The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

Num 35:20 But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;
Num 35:21 Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.
Num 35:30 Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.

The descriptions above, give us a look at what is commonly called, first degree, premeditated murder. However, notice the last part of the last verse. It gives instruction that no murderer should be put to death, if the only testimony against that murderer, is from only one witness.

Num 35:31 Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.

Those that protest the execution of a person, that is positively found guilty, according to the stipulations that God has put forth, are actually going against God.

There is the argument that there is the danger of executing an innocent person, and that there is no benefit to it, because it is not a deterrent to crime. Well, if you look at the stipulations, there have to be more than one witness. If, I go up to a person, in the middle of a crowd, and kill them, and everyone in the crowd, testifies against me, then how can there be a mistake???

Next, the idea that capital punishment is not a deterrent.

Well, that depends on how you look at it. It is not, meant to be a deterrent to keep someone else from committing the same thing, but that can be argued. I can guarantee you, that the threat of one losing their life, by punishment, has deterred a lot of people from murdering someone. I know that the threat of going to jail, was enough to keep me from doing wrong, and that was without the fear of being put to death, so it is total foolishness to say capital punishment is not a deterrent.

However, no one has considered this.

Capital punishment is a deterrent to the murderer committing another murder.

It is a known fact, and science bears it out. It is hard for a person to kill someone the first time. But, having done it, it becomes easier for them to do it again. The more a person kills, the easier it is for them to do it again. God knows this, and that is why He says to put them to death. God knows more about human nature, than any scientist will ever know.

Also, there is another little known fact, that is not really that obvious, and it is this.

The scripture basically says, if a person, does something to another person, knowing that, that person will die from it, (and I am talking about premeditated killing, and not self defense, or any other action, that may cause one to have to take another's life) then they are guilty of the murder of that person.

Well, if a person lies on the witness stand, to get a person put to death, then they are in fact, guilty of the murder of that person, and they, should be put to death. They lied on the witness stand, and there are many witnesses to that lie, so, capital punishment, is warranted.

Failure to follow God's directions leads to disaster, and I dare say, one only needs to look at how we have suffered all sorts of ways, paying over $50,000 per year, taking care of someone that should have been put to death, while at the same time, allowing them to have all of the comforts of home. Some of them have killed while in prison. It usually takes an average of 10 years to put a person to death. If the person knows that, then they may figure there is no big risk. If on the other hand, they knew that within a few months, they would be put to death, then that would deter a lot more potential murders than it does now.

Now, I could go on and on about this, but I want to touch on the other part of this message, and that is abortion.

I'm not going to go in to too much detail about it, because I already have a tract written solely on this subject. To see it, you can write this ministry and request the tract titled, Or you can click this link, ABORTION. WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT IT!! [OCT.96]. and view it on this ministry's website in the 'tract' section.

However, here, I will say this.

If you will notice the second part of the title verses, you will see, that God, calls children, 'an heritage of His.' Do you know what that means?? It means, that they are, in effect, extensions, or descendants of Himself. After all, man is made in the image of God, as mentioned in the first scripture of the title. He then goes on to say, that they are a reward, to us.

Now, when one thinks of a reward, it is usually bestowed on someone, because of something that they have done. God, on the other hand, gives us a reward, when actually, we have done absolutely nothing for it. Why does He do this??? Because He loves us, and wants us to share in His plan for the furtherance of His creation. He made us in His image, and instead of creating more and more people like He did Adam and Eve, He allows us to take part in that process, by birthing other humans in to the world.

This type of love, shown by God to mankind, is literally being, spat on, and savaged by those that, through sheer ignorance and hatred of God, want to destroy anything that has to remind them, that there is a God, and He does have rules, and if you violate them, you will pay for it. Don't think what this nation is going through with all of the crime, diseases, economic problems, unemployment, and the like, including 9/11, are the fault of the Republicans. They are the result of this nation's continued disobedience to God. In otherwords, judgment has come on this nation, but slick talking preachers, scientists, lawyers, and special interest groups, have many believing that, somehow, the Republicans are responsible. That is foolishness. Total foolishness.

The problem is, we need to get back to God. But, many preachers won't admit that. Why?? Because if they did admit it, that would mean they have been wrong all these years, and many thousands of people have suffered and died, believing the lies that came out of their mouths.

These wolves in sheep's clothing, are too busy trying to be popular, and looking for special positions and deals from their political buddies, and popularity in their communities, to tell the truth, if they even know it. When a preacher says that something that God ordained, is immoral, then, if I were you, I would get as far away from that devil, as possible. And there are a lot of them out there.

Anyway, people want to think that being pro life, and for the death penalty, is hypocritical. Not at all.

Abortion, is the taking of an innocent life. A life that hasn't even had a chance to start yet, while capital punishment, is the removal of life from a person, that is guilty of taking an innocent life.

Now, this may seem hard, but I believe it. Having just described, what abortion and capital punishment is, then the abortionist, is also a murderer, because he is premeditatedly taking an innocent life. Now, before you go in to a conniption fit, remember, this, how does God see all of this??? Sure, there are times when an abortion may be warranted, to save the mother's life, but that is only about 2.5% of the 1.5 million abortions performed every year.

So, when I hear people talking about how we don't need the death penalty because we might kill an innocent person, then I say, we are already dispensing capital punishment on 1.5 million innocent persons every year, and have been since 1972. That's over 43 million to date. Changing the name to fetus, does not make it any different. A rose by any other name, is still a rose.

Another thing, capital punishment does have one big advantage, to the guilty person. Barring other unforeseen circumstances, this person knows when they will die, and can get right with God, before they do.

Today, when asking a lot of people about getting right with God, the younger crowd, say they are too young to think about that, right now. They want to wait until they are in their 70's or older, as if they know they are going to live that long. If I knew I was going to die tomorrow, and I didn't have God in my life, I would be on my knees getting right with Him, so I could still make Heaven my home. That's right, murderers can still go to Heaven, if they get right with God, first.

One thing, I don't like to see, is people that want to condemn a person to hell because they murdered someone.

That is not the right frame of mind for a Christian to be in. It's a long shot, but even Hitler, could be there, if he repented and accepted Jesus Christ as His saviour, before he died.

This is the total grace and mercy that God has toward us. [1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.] If you are cleansed from all unrighteousness, then you will go to Heaven.

Notice, we have to first, confess our sins. That's not going to happen, as long as we think we are not committing any sin, or that God will overlook it. Telling us that, is what these preachers should be doing.

So, remember, capital punishment is ordained, and instituted by God, under certain conditions, and it is not hypocritical, to be against abortion, and for capital punishment. And while God never said it would be a deterrent, it will deter the murderer from killing again. And for the record, it's not our revenge, it is God's justice.
