SCRIPTURE - ISA. 53:5 APRIL, 1996
BUT HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS, HE WAS BRUISED FOR OUR
INIQUITIES; THE CHASTISEMENT OF OUR PEACE WAS UPON HIM, AND BY HIS
STRIPES WE ARE HEALED
SUBJECT - HE DID IT FOR YOU, AND ME

Two thousand and some years ago, a child was born, by the name of Jesus. This Jesus, grew up to be one of the most loved, and the mosthated men of all time. He was a man, with a mission. That mission, was
to save all of mankind from their sins [MATT. 1:21]. In order to do this, He had to follow God's plan, of living a righteous, and holy Life, then offer Himself up, as a sacrifice, to God. As we celebrate this Easter season, commemorating the death, burial and ressurection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, there are many, that don't understand just what it is, this Jesus, did for all of us. For truly, if He had not done it, then our lives would truly be hell, and death would mean eternity in hell. That is, if mankind were still here. For it is possible, that man may have destroyed himself.
Picture the scene, in the Garden of Gethsemene, where Jesus has just finished, asking the Father, to let the plan that He had to go through, pass from Him [MATT. 26:39]. He then, however says, nevertheless, not
as I will, but as you will. He goes back to His disciples, and while He is speaking to them, Judas, a man that had been one of His disciples shows up with a multitude of people, to take Him in to custody. From
[MATT. 26:51-54], we see, that Jesus is quite able to get delivered from what is about to take place, if He wants to, but He chooses to follow the plan. He is then led away.
His next stop, is before a high priest, named Caiaphas, where He is subject to persecution, ridicule, and physical assault. He is lied on. He is spit upon. Many hit Him in the face with their hands, and mocked Him
[MATT. 26:66-68]. Yet, He did, and said nothing. It is said, that some, even grabbed Him by the beard, and pulled it off of His face. Yet, He did not retaliate. Remember, at any time, He could have stopped this,
but He didn't.
Next, He stands before Pontius Pilate. There, more of the same occurs. He is accused, beaten with omething similar to a cat of nine tails,
till His flesh, is literally torn away from His bones. A crown of
thorns, is placed on His head. It is pressed down with such force, that
the thorns, get embedded in His head, and it begins to swell. It swells
so much, that He no longer looks human. Yet, He allows them to
continue. But, there is still more to come.
It has been determined, that He should be crucified. A cross is brought
to Him, and He is made to carry it, out of the city, and up to the top
of a hill, called Golgotha. Now remember, His back has been beat to
shreds. His beard has been pulled from His face. And this crown of
thorns, has caused Him to bleed profusely. But, the worst, is yet to
come. When they reached the top of the hill, they laid the cross on
the ground, and laid Him on top of it. They take one arm, and stretch
it out, and nail that hand to the cross. Then, they take the other
hand, and do the same thing. Next, they take one foot, place it on top
of the other foot, then with one big nail, they nail His feet to it.
Can you imagine the pain of all of this??? But, it's not over yet. They
then, stand the cross up, and allow the base of it, to drop down in to
a hole in the ground so it will stand upright. Well, when it drops, and
hits bottom, this jars the whole thing, and further tears the wounds in
His hands and feet. While He is up there, and still alive, He is mocked
by the crowds that are standing there. For hours, He clings to life. He
gets thirsty, and asks for a drink, and is given, what can best be
discribed as vinegar. Then, shortly after
this, He dies. Then a Roman soldier, pierces Him in the side with his
spear. Now think of this. This man went through total hell, before He
died. And at any point, during this torture, He could have called
legions of angels to come down and destroy everyone in sight. But, He
didn't do it. Why ???
Because, if He had, you my friend, and I, would have nothing to look
forward to, when we die, but an eternity in hell. The torture that He
endured, was representative of the torture that each one of our lives
would be, and deservedly so. Because all of us, like sheep, have gone
astray. We are all unrighteous, and don't deserve any better. We are
wicked to the core (heart) [JER. 17:9]. But God, in His mercy and
grace, made a way of escape from the judgement that was pronounced on
Adam, because of his disobedience. That way, required that some man,
that was perfect, not tainted with the blood of sinful man, and that
was able to please God, in all areas of life, be offered as a blood
sacrifice, to appease the demands of a righteous God. Jesus, was that
man.
What He did for us, not only saved us from an eternity in hell, but
also delivered us from the curses that fell on mankind, because of
Adam. Sickness, infirmity, poverty and death. All of these, came into
being, part and parcel, when Adam, sold out, to the devil. God, had
given Adam dominion over all the earth. This included the birds, the
land animals, and those in the sea. It also included every thing,
living or not, like plants and trees and rocks and such. Man even had
dominion over viruses and germs and such. But, he turned all of that
authority, over to the devil. And from then, to now, the devil has been
using them, to destroy us. Jesus, through His death on the cross,
burial, and resurrection, redeemed us, and got back, all the authority
that Adam had turned over to the devil, then gave it back to us.
This work, this sacrifice, that Jesus did, opened the door for you, and
I, to partake of the salvation that is the plan of God. For without it,
we would be men and women, most miserable. There would be no hope for
us, to escape the punishment that we deserve. But, through His shed
blood, death, burial and resurrection, we have a right to life everlas-
ting. And just how do we partake of this salvation?? Jesus said, 'YOU
MUST BE BORN AGAIN' [ST. JOHN 3:3,7]. And how do you get born again?
[Rom. 10:9-10] says that you only need to believe in your heart, and
confess with your mouth, the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart,
that He was raised from the dead, you shall be saved.
All of the suffering that Jesus did, He did for you. You would figure,
that the reason He did it, was because of all of the billions of
people, whose lives were affected by the sins of Adam. And you would
be partially right. The truth is, IF YOU WERE THE ONLY PERSON ON THE
FACE OT THIS EARTH, THAT WAS ON THEIR WAY TO HELL, BECAUSE OF SIN, AND
THIS WAS THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE YOU, HE WOULD HAVE COME HERE AND GONE
THROUGH THE WHOLE THING, JUST FOR YOU. That, my friend, is true Love.
For God so loved you, that He gave His Son ....
As far as where you have to go, to get saved, you can do it right now,
right where you are. All you have to do is say, "JESUS, I AM A SINNER,
AND I AM SORRY FOR MY SINFUL WAYS. WILL YOU COME INTO MY HEART, AND
CLEANSE ME FROM ALL MY SIN, AND BE LORD OF MY LIFE. I ACCEPT YOU AS
LORD AND SAVIOR, AND WITH YOUR HELP, I WILL LIVE MY LIFE FOR YOU. I
BELIEVE THAT YOU DIED ON THE CROSS FOR MY SINS, AND WERE RAISED FROM
THE DEAD, FOR MY JUSTIFICATION." If you prayed that prayer, from the
heart, meaning every word, congratulations, you are now saved. The
next thing you need to do, is start learning about what God wants you
to begin doing. Among these things, is get water baptized, in the name
of Jesus as a symbolic act of the remission of your sins. Also, seek
the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which will be the evidence of God's
power, being given to you, as recorded in the book of Acts, chapter 2.
You may not feel any different, but believe me, no, believe God, YOU
ARE A NEW CREATION IN CHRIST. OLD THINGS HAVE PASSED AWAY, AND BEHOLD,
ALL THINGS ARE NEW (2 COR. 5:17).
